Today was the day. You know the one where youâre pumped, prepped, and a little jittery because youâve got an interview lined up with a BIG firm. Not just any firm â weâre talking major league. I knew I had to bring my A-game, so I got up, polished my rĂ©sumĂ© (and my sense of humour), and logged in for this virtual rendezvous with destiny.
Let me start by saying this wasnât just any ordinary interview. It was an event â an epic that Iâm still laughing about. Because let me tell you, I got the best interviewer in the history of interviews. Move over, job interview horror stories, because this one is going straight into the hall of fame â but for good reasons!
Pre-Interview Vibes:
It all started with the classic Zoom check â making sure my webcam didnât catch me in my pyjamas (lesson learned the hard way once). I clicked into the meeting, nervous, adjusting my hair and ensuring the lighting didnât make me look like a ghost or, worse, someone who hadnât slept in days. I mean, first impressions, right?
It all started normally â introductions, a little chit-chat, and then she hit me with The Game. Wait, WHAT? I had prepared answers for all the typical questions: strengths, weaknesses, goals⊠but THIS? Well, I wasnât going to let this curveball throw me off.
Yup, you read that right. We played a game. Not just any game, but the Tagline Game. The rules? I had to assign the wrong names to brand taglines and trust me, this was gold. I mean, who wouldnât think âHappiness insideâ belongs to a McDonalds? Because, well⊠Iâm a food lover, and letâs be honest, ordering food from there requires zero effort compared to going for a run!
The more wrong answers I gave, the more we laughed. I could feel the tension melt away. And when I accidentally suggested a tagline for something completely unrelated (which I wonât admit here because it was THAT ridiculous), she lost it. Full-on, genuine laughter. At this point, I realized: that this is not just an interview; itâs an experience.
Laughs & Light Bulb Moments:
We dove into work stuff, and instead of the usual stiff Q&A session, we were riffing off each otherâs ideas. We then had some work-related chat but she didn't make it feel like an interview at all.
Wrap-Up and Goodbye:
The interview came to an end, but not before I casually mentioned that I had never enjoyed an interview so much in my life. She laughed again (pretty sure I should add âmood-lifterâ to my CV now) and said she had fun too. Imagine that â a hiring manager saying they had fun during an interview! The interview ended, and I was a bit sad to say goodbye. It had been so⊠FUN. Not just bearable, or âgoodâ as far as interviews go, but genuinely enjoyable. Who knew job interviews could feel like that?
After it ended, I sat there for a second, still grinning like an idiot. Whether I get the job or not, this was the best interview experience Iâve ever had. And honestly? If they ever want someone to help brainstorm food-themed content, Iâm 100% their girl.
Moral of the Story:
Always be prepared for anything, but also be prepared to have a blast when you least expect it. And, of course, never underestimate the power of snacks as a motivator.
Interviews donât always have to be stiff and robotic. Sometimes, they can be all about vibes, food, and misnaming brand taglines. And when that happens, it just might become the best interview youâve ever had! So hereâs to future interviews where we talk less about corporate jargon and more about food. Because in the end, thatâs where the real bonding happens.
Oh, and fingers crossed I get the job â Iâll make sure to celebrate with a pizza!đđ The end⊠or is it just the beginning? (Iâll keep you posted!)
Until next time,
MB.
